At WWDC Apple gave a preview of their mobile phone software the IOS. We are now at version 7 and Apple have decided to completely change the look and feel of the software. Everything now is more Flat and Clean, gone are the days were drop shadows and 3D icons ruled the internets. This is getting a lot of mixed feelings as many designers out there are shocked by what Apple have come up with, especially with the icons and color scheme while others don’t mind it so much.
Anyhow, as this is only the Beta version, many things might and probably will change when the final release comes out late Sept/Oct to coincide with the launch of their next iphone. If you are an iphone owner and is jealous of all those new wonderful Android features, you will certainly enjoy the face lift on IOS 7. Feature wise, not so much, still the same of IOS we are so used to. There is the new control centre where you can pull up a fixed set of apps/tools for quick actions and some enhancement to the photo/camera app. That is really all I could see that is new, any way take a look at the promo video from Apple, it’s magical as always.
You know what, I’m loving this concept video for the next ios 7. I hope it comes true as it looks great!
Here’s a neat idea, design a iPod/iPhone portable speaker without using power. Here’s how it work, using the natural resonance frequency of the iPhone, all the sound is amplified through a series of tunnels and chambers (like a trombone). It probably won’t be very loud but it will definitely look cool. Check it out here.
I’m telling you I’m hooked, this is the most fun thing since slice bread. Basically the concept is very simple, you post a picture into instagram and people comment, it’s that simple. What makes it special are the different filters you can apply to your photos to make it more appealing. It’s quite addictive, look for me if you’re using it, @cooleye. Oh, you will need an iOS device to use it. check it out here.
Today Apple announced their new range of ipods, from the shuffles to the nano to the touch. Starting from the shuffle, which used to look like a stick of gum now goes back 1 generation with buttons. I guess the people have spoken, they want buttons, nothing special there. The nano on the other hand is brand new with a multi-touch screen and a smaller form factor. Also known as the mini-me of the touch. Personally, I probably will give that a miss and I much prefer the previous version as it has a larger screen and camera. Lastly the new touch, this is by far the best iteration of the multi-touch device. It now supports the retina screen like the iphone4 and also have the front & back cameras. Facetime is now possible via wifi and runs the A4 processor too. I have been hanging out on this as I was thinking of either getting the iphone4 or wait to see that the new touch was like. I’m glad it went my way, I’m happy now. Check out all the features here.
I always liked the original Zune, the only problem was I got myself an ipod touch. Well, now that the Zune HD is out and my touch is 2yrs old. Maybe it’s time for a switch. I got to play with one at BestBuy, it’s very slick, the OLED screen is beautiful. Mmm… candy.
Apple have updated their Ipod Nano line by including a build-in camera. It not only takes photos but also shoots video at 640×480 running at 30fps. I’m thinking the digital camera business is slowly heading out the door. Why would I buy a camera when I can also have music with it. the size hasn’t change much and cost is $149 for the 8Gb and $179 for the 16Gb. Oh, it also comes with FM tuner (a tat late apple?), voice recorder and pedometer for the health freaks. Nicely done Apple, why don’t you put those in the Ipod Touch huh??? Check it out here.
